Dr. Alonto is a graduate of Political Science and History at the State University of Mindanao. He has authored several books on Islam as well as fiction and non fiction. Together with his wife Alona, he researched on SALSILAH, a narrative genealogical history of the ruling elites in Muslim Mindanao, which only the ruling class are privileged to open. The research results were used in writing “Sultan Kudarat” in comics form for easy reading and better appreciation of the reading public.
Professor Alonto’s grandfather was Senator ‘Suritan-sa-Ramain’Alauya Alonto I, the first Muslim elected senator in the country. His aunt Princess Tarhata Alonto Lucman was the first woman governor elected in the Philippines.
He was involved in social work particularly with the Food for the Hungry International.
