Prospective candidates for the Regional Elections in the Autonomous Region Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) may now file their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) until midnight of 25 May 2011.
Additionally, candidates for Governor and Vice-Governor may now file their COCs at the Commission’s satellite offices in Zamboanga and Marawi City. Previously, COCs for the top positions in the ARMM were accepted only at the COMELEC’s Cotabato Office. However, concerns for the convenience and safety of aspirants to the position prompted the Commission to allow filing in Zamboanga and Marawi City.
COMELEC Resolution No. 9232, promulgated 23 May 2011, has extended the period of filing certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the upcoming Regional Elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The original deadline was set for today, May 23.
The Resolution noted the observation of the Regional Director for the ARMM that the geography of the ARMM made it difficult for prospective candidates to file their COCs on time, thus requiring a “longer period of filing.”
The Commission en banc likewise took cognizance of the “volatile political situation (in the ARMM) and the peril and inconvenience faced by potential candidates for Regional Governor and Vice-Governor in travelling to Cotabato City to file their respective COCs.”
