Manila Mayor Alfredo “Fred” Lim and Vice Mayor Isko Moreno today endorsed the presidential and vice presidential bids of Liberal Party Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino and Mar Roxas, respectively, for the 2010 national elections.
Aquino and Roxas, on the other hand, declared their support for the Lim-Moreno tandem for the Manila local contest next year.
The mutual expression of support was contained in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) forged between Lim’s Laban para sa Kapayapaan, Katarungan at Kaunlaran (KKK) and the Liberal Party that formalized the coalition of the two parties for the May 2010 national elections.
The MoU signing was held at the Bonifacio Shrine (Kartilya ng Katipunan) beside the Manila City Hall after KKK’s party convention, held earlier in the afternoon. The LP was represented by Aquino, Roxas, who is the party president, LP Chairman and former Senate President Franklin Drilon and LP Secretary General Rep. Joseph Emilio Abaya while the KKK was represented by Lim, who is the founding chairman, KKK President Justice Rodolfo G. Palattao and KKK Secretary General Atty. Ariel Joseph B. Arias.
“The parties hereto agree to jointly support the candidacies of Senator Benigno C. Aquino III and for President and Senator Manuel A. Roxas for Vice President of the Philippines; Mayor Alfredo S. Lim and Vice Mayor Isko Moreno for Mayor and Vice Mayor, respectively of Manila, the common senatorial candidates and all the other local candidates of the Coalition,” the agreement said.
The two parties share the common commitment to fight for righteousness and decency to “insure the preservation of a just and humane society” and are both firm believers of a “true state of moral ascendancy, dignity, sincerity, clean and honest governance to insure the liberty and happiness of the Filipino people.”
“There is a need to combine all the resources and struggles of both parties to realize the cherished dreams of the Filipino people for a real change in government and society,” the LP and KKK agreed, as they vowed to “wage a common and relentless struggle as a unified political force” to bring about changes in the country.
