Pangasinan Rep. Victor Agbayani, North Cotabato Rep. Bernardo Piñol, Jr. and 125 other local officials from different parts of the country today took their oaths as new Liberals, further strengthening the base support of the Liberal Party.
Agbayani and Piñol were formerly affiliated with the administration Lakas-CMD party. The two senators welcomed the new LP members in simple oath-taking rites at the Balay in Cubao, Quezon City.
“Pagpapatunay lamang ito ng patuloy na lumalaki ang puwersa ng ating mga kababayan na nagnanais ng pagbabago sa ating bansa (This only shows that the clamor for reforms is continuing),” said Sen. Mar Roxas, who is the Liberal Party President and vice presidential candidate in the 2010 national elections.
Meanwhile, LP standard-bearer Senator Noynoy Aquino said: “Hindi magtatagal at muli na nating maipagmamalaki ang ating bansa. Taas-noo, haharapin natin ang mas maayos at masaganang bukas (It will not be long that we will all be proud of our nation again. We will all face a better tomorrow).”
Cavite Gov. Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi and other Cavite local officials have earlier joined the Liberal Party, an exodus that boosted the ground support for the party, with Cavite being one of the top voting provinces in the country.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, former Cebu Gov. Emilio Osmeña and former Senators John Henry Osmeña and Serge Osmeña have set aside their political differences to back the presidential and vice presidential bids, respectively, of Aquino and Roxas. Cebu is among the country’s provinces that has the most number of registered voters.
Popular television host and actor Cesar Montano, who has been named as Philippine Ambassador to the Unesco by President Arroyo, has left the administration and joined the Liberal Party. He has been designated as LP provincial chairman and would be pitted again incumbent Gov. Erico Aumentado in the Bohol gubernatorial contest.
