Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto S. Mercado gamely looks on as a newly-wed couple does the traditional cake sampling at the Makati Session Hall where “Kasalan sa Makati,” a mass wedding, was recently held as the culminating event of the month-long celebration of Makati’s 339th founding anniversary. Mayor Jejomar C. Binay and Mercado stood as the principal sponsors to some 34 couples, many of whom had been living together for five years or more before deciding to tie the knot. The mass civil wedding is a traditional part of the “Araw ng Makati” month-long festivities laid out by the city government each year.
