Graduates of Free Special Skills Training in Makati Hired Abroad

Sixteen graduates of the city’s hard skills training and livelihood programs have been hired by the different foreign companies abroad.

Makati Mayor Jejomar C. Binay said the Makati Training, Placement and Livelihood Consortia (MTPLC), a key agency of the city government focused on providing skills training, livelihood and job opportunities for residents, obtained the information as a result of efforts to track down the employment status of its graduates.

“Employability is one of the current thrusts of the city government, so we have tried to get an update on how the MTPLC graduates have fared.  And we are greatly heartened to learn that many of them have succeeded in landing gainful employment here and abroad,” Binay said.

Based on a report submitted to the mayor by Dr. Edita Chan, MTPLC president, 16 graduates of its hard skills training programs and call center course are now working in various companies located in Singapore, Qatar, Australia, Dubai, Saudi, Japan, Canada, and Malaysia.

Chan identified the successful graduates and their work base, namely, Richmon Ang (call center course) in Singapore; Jose Mari Orozco (ref-aircon), Canada; Antonio Marianito (electrical), Qatar; Norman Eugenio (electrical), Singapore; Michael Mont (electrical), Dubai; Raymond Tan (automotive), Australia; Johnny Llanasas and Kenneth Sarmiento (automotive), Saudi Arabia; and Edward Miranda (automotive), Japan.

Meanwhile, seven welding course graduates of MTPLC are now part of the OFW community, with four based in Malaysia.  They are Andrew Marfil, Bon Richard Briosos, Cesar Llubi, Jr, and Derek Natividad.  Two others, Ronald Dipana and Butch Lamadrid, are working in Dammam, KSA, while Jose Pasagoy works in Canada.

Chan said they were also able to track down locally employed MTPLC graduates, including 42 graduates of its short-term call center program now working at TELUS call center. She said 75 more graduates of hard skill programs, such as waitering and bartending, electronics, computer technology, and motorcycle servicing, are employed by locally-based companies.  These include Kaizen, Avesco Contractors, Anvic Construction, Ricolite Constructions, PLDT, Velocity Motors, HKR Equipment, United Homecare, ASBU, ALC Services, Steelar Equipment & Machine, PPSC,  MCV Service Center, NAMRIA, Red Hammer Company, Dad’s, Sea Fod Island Fiesta, and Chowking.

The MTPLC serves as the central training arm of the city government, which coordinates and synergizes all skills development and job placement efforts of similarly-oriented public and private institutions in the city.  Since its inception in 2001, it has produced over 10,000 graduates.  It is open to all bona fide residents of Makati, especially out-of-school youth, unemployed or underemployed men and women, and students seeking part-time employment to support their schooling.
