The city of Makati intends to send off former president Corazon Aquino with a shower of confetti on Monday.

Makati Mayor Jejomar C. Binay is encouraging residents, students, employees and the business community to join the city government in welcoming the funeral procession of the former president.

The procession will pass through Ayala Avenue and Gil Puyat Avenue on its way to the Manila Cathedral where necrological services have been scheduled.

“Makati holds a special place in the heart of Cory Aquino. She marched through the streets of Makati during protest actions after the 1983 assassination of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino. She marched through the streets of Makati against the abuse of power of the Arroyo administration. In all those events, she was always greeted by confetti,” he said.

Binay encouraged employees along the buildings on Ayala Avenue to shower the former president with confetti when she passes through the heart of the country’s financial center for the last time.

Students from Makati’s public schools, residents, employees and business executives will also line the entire stretch of Ayala Avenue and Gil Puyat to pay their final respects for the former president, he added.

At the Ninoy Aquino monument at the corner of Ayala and Paseo de Roxas, the procession will be met by an honor guard from the Makati Police Department and the Department of Public Safety.

“Makati is forever grateful to Cory, and this will be our humble way of saying thank you,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DPS said the east side lane of Ayala( bound for Gil Puyat), and the north side lane of Gil Puyat (bound for Taft Avenue) will be closed to traffic as soon as the procession leaves La Salle Greenhills.
