As the son of the late Senator Mamintal "Mike" Tamano, who himself was a reputed statesman, and civic leader Hadja Putri Zorayda Abbas of Lanao del Sur and Jolo, the pursuit for excellence and passion for service definitely runs in the veins of Adel. Such a reputable parentage is backed up by good exposure to rich cultural experience from his studies on home grounds as well as foreign shores, earning for himself degrees of significance to public service.
Adel’s name means "lover of justice" in Arabic. His late father, also a lawyer, had an amazing foresight in giving him that name. Interestingly, he decided to become a lawyer after shelving his yearning to be a writer. The decision must have been expected even as he was deep into reading books, mostly science books, or stretching his vocal chords as member of the famed Kundirana, the singing group of La Salle Greehhills in his high school years. After all, he comes from a lineage of law practitioners. His paternal and maternal grandfathers became judges. His father and uncles were all lawyers.
Though not inclined into politics despite his family’s political background, he was chosen as a senatorial candidate both under the Arroyo Administration and the United Opposition in 2007 — both offers he declined. He accepted the post of spokesperson for the United Opposition instead. During the campaign sorties, he met his father’s old friends and associates, and felt the good fortune of "[having] a good father who left me with a ‘good name’."
Living under the long shadows of his senator-father and Muslim princess-mother did not at all hamper him from exuding his own light that he can offer to his countrymen. He has made a name for himself, and currently, he serves as the youngest university president of a prestigious Manila-based scholars’ university at the age of 36 to fulfil his utmost advocacy of public service through quality education. Adel has earned his rightful place under the sun — public service at its best.
Adel now serves as the guardian of the legacy of his lineage as he brings forth his idealism and dedication to public service into a higher pedestal by translating his advocacies into reality. This is what a common tao yearns and dreams for. This is what he’s got to offer them.
